Cole Palmer Signs New Chelsea Contract Extension Until 2034

    October 14, 2026

Chelsea have secured the long-term future of Cole Palmer after announcing that the England international has signed a new contract extension keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2034.

The Premier League club confirmed the agreement on Saturday, October 10, rewarding the 24-year-old attacking midfielder for his performances since joining from Manchester City in 2023.

Palmer was already under contract until 2033, having signed a previous extension in 2024. However, Chelsea decided to improve his terms and extend the agreement by another year, reinforcing his importance to the club’s long-term plans.

The England international expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, explaining that conversations with Chelsea’s ownership, sporting directors, manager Xabi Alonso, and teammates convinced him that remaining at Stamford Bridge was the right decision.

Palmer also emphasized his ambition to continue winning major trophies with Chelsea and play an important role in the team’s future success.

The midfielder has established himself as one of Chelsea’s most influential players since arriving from Manchester City in August 2023.

According to Chelsea’s official announcement, Palmer has registered 91 goal contributions in 138 appearances across all competitions during his time with the club.

His first season at Stamford Bridge was particularly impressive. Palmer scored 25 goals and provided 19 assists during the 2023-24 campaign, immediately establishing himself as a central figure in Chelsea’s attack.

His performances earned him Chelsea’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards, along with the Premier League Young Player of the Season and PFA Young Player of the Year honors.

Palmer continued producing important performances during his second campaign, including four first-half goals against Brighton and Hove Albion, an achievement that established a Premier League record.

He also helped Chelsea win the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2025, adding significant silverware to his career.

The attacking midfielder has started the 2026-27 season strongly, recording four goals and two assists in Chelsea’s opening seven matches.

His contributions remain particularly important to Alonso, who has emphasized the need to retain talented young players while developing a competitive squad capable of challenging for major honors.

Following the announcement, Alonso praised Palmer’s commitment and expressed confidence that the England international could remain an elite player for several years.

The Chelsea manager also stressed the importance of helping Palmer maintain his development and ensuring that his long-term commitment translates into success on the pitch.

Palmer celebrated his new agreement by starting Chelsea’s Premier League encounter against Bournemouth on Saturday.

He provided an assist for Jordan Henderson’s opening goal in the second minute as Chelsea secured a convincing 5-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.

After the match, Palmer thanked the club for its confidence and acknowledged his responsibility to repay that trust through his performances.

The contract extension also follows a challenging period involving Palmer’s fitness.

The midfielder struggled with a persistent groin problem during the previous season, which affected his performances and international availability.

He was omitted from England’s 2026 World Cup squad but subsequently earned a recall for the October Nations League fixtures against Spain, Czechia, and Croatia.

However, a recurrence of his groin problem forced him to withdraw from the squad, prompting England manager Thomas Tuchel to express frustration over his repeated absences.

Alonso defended Palmer’s commitment to the national team, explaining that the midfielder needed to be fully fit before representing either Chelsea or England.

The manager also confirmed that Palmer had made progress during the international break, allowing him to return to Chelsea’s starting lineup against Bournemouth.

Palmer’s extension forms part of Chelsea’s broader strategy of securing important first-team players on long-term agreements.

Joao Pedro has also committed his future to the club until 2034, while Pedro Neto recently signed a six-year contract.

Chelsea have additionally secured new agreements with Reece James and Moises Caicedo, demonstrating the club’s intention to maintain continuity within its squad.

For Palmer, the new deal provides stability at a club where he has developed into a leading attacking player.

His creativity, composure in front of goal, ability to operate between defensive lines, and confidence in possession have made him an important component of Chelsea’s attacking system.

The midfielder’s versatility also allows him to influence matches from several attacking positions, combining his goalscoring instincts with the ability to create opportunities for teammates.

At 24, Palmer has already established himself as a key figure at Stamford Bridge, and his new contract keeps him tied to Chelsea until 2034.
