East Bengal FC has added more firepower to its frontline by signing Ivorian centre-forward Ake Loba, the club announced on Tuesday. The 28-year-old arrives with experience of playing in multiple countries and competing at the continental level.
Loba has featured in the top divisions of Cote d’Ivoire, Mexico and the United States during a career that has taken him through different footballing environments. His addition gives the Red and Gold Brigade another experienced option in attack.
A former Cote d’Ivoire U-20 international, Loba began his senior career in his homeland before making the move overseas. Mexico became an important destination in his career, with the forward going on to represent several clubs in the country.
Among those teams were Queretaro and Monterrey, with his time at the latter providing one of the major highlights of his career. Loba was part of the Monterrey squad that lifted the CONCACAF Champions League title in 2021.
He also made an impact during the club’s run in the continental competition. The Ivorian scored against Columbus Crew in the first leg of the quarterfinals, contributing to Monterrey’s successful campaign.
Loba later took his career to the United States after joining Major League Soccer side Nashville SC. His stint in MLS added another league to his growing list of experiences before he eventually returned to Mexican football.
Following his return to Mexico, the striker had spells with Mazatlan, Tijuana and Queretaro, continuing his journey across clubs in the country.
East Bengal will now hope Loba can bring that experience to its attacking unit. Having played in different leagues and featured in continental competition, the centre-forward arrives with exposure to a range of playing styles and competitive environments.
The signing strengthens East Bengal’s options up front as the club adds an overseas forward with a varied career behind him. For Loba, the move opens another chapter as he prepares to represent the Red and Gold Brigade and experience Indian football.
