East Bengal has taken decisive steps to reinforce its squad ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season, securing the future of midfielder Mohammed Rashid while bringing in Spanish playmaker Dani Ramirez as a replacement for departing midfielder Miguel Figueira.
The Kolkata giant confirmed a one-year contract extension for Rashid, ensuring the Palestine international remains with the club until 2027. Rashid’s previous deal expired on May 31, but the club moved swiftly to retain one of its key performers from last season.
The 30-year-old joined East Bengal ahead of the previous campaign and quickly established himself as a vital figure in the middle of the park. Operating as the anchor of the midfield, Rashid made 21 appearances across all competitions and played an important role in the team’s success. One of his standout moments came when he scored the decisive goal against Inter Kashi, helping East Bengal secure its first men’s top-flight trophy in 22 years.
Alongside Rashid’s renewal, East Bengal has added further quality to its midfield by signing Dani Ramirez. The Spaniard arrives from Punjab FC and is expected to take up an advanced playmaking role, partnering Rashid in the center of the field.
Ramirez enjoyed an impressive campaign with Punjab FC under coach Panagiotis Dilmperis. Playing as a No. 10, he contributed five goals and three assists while helping the club reach the semifinals of the AIFF Super Cup. Punjab also remained in the race for the ISL title until the final matchday, highlighting the midfielder’s influence throughout the season.
His move continues the growing transfer activity involving former Punjab FC personnel. Earlier, midfielder Samir Zeljković completed a switch to Mohun Bagan Super Giant, while Dilmperis parted ways with Punjab FC amid reported interest from the Kolkata club.
The Spaniard becomes East Bengal’s second major acquisition of the transfer window after the club secured the signing of FC Goa full-back Boris Singh on a multi-year contract. Ramirez has signed an initial one-year deal, with an option to extend his stay for an additional season.
Away from player recruitment, East Bengal continues discussions regarding its head coach position, with Oscar Bruzon still in contention to remain in charge. The club is expected to begin pre-season preparations later this month.
A busy schedule awaits the Red-and-Gold Brigade. The domestic campaign is set to kick off with the Durand Cup on July 25, followed by East Bengal’s AFC Champions League Two preliminary-round fixture on August 12. The club will then turn its attention to defending its ISL crown when the new league season begins in September.
