FC Goa are gradually building the base for a strong team in the upcoming Indian Super League season as they have announced the extension of their midfield marvel Edu Bedia. The Spanish midfielder has signed on the dotted lines and will stay at the club till the summer of next year at least.
The former Real Zaragoza midfielder joined FC Goa back in the 2017-18 season and has been at the club for the last five seasons. He has been a mainstay at FC Goa and have been an integral part of many successful seasons under Sergio Lobera. He will look to continue that consistency under new head coach Carlos Pena as they look to take the club to greater heights.
In this time Bedia has made 102 appearances for the Gaurs across different competitions and have also scored 13 goals and as many assists in that time period. He has been an indomitable force in the FC Goa midfield.
“FC Goa has been my home since 2017. It is more than just a Club in my career. Goa and the fans have been an important part of my life. I am delighted to be back with the team,” the experienced Spaniard was delighted to extend his contract with the club as he told the club’s official website.
He also shared how he has been lucky to win so many titles and gather such accolades wearing the orange for FC Goa. He shared how the club will make a turnaround next season and among the best in India. “It has been a pleasure for me to complete various personal milestones and also to win laurels with the club. However, I believe this coming season will be my most important at the Club and I fully believe we will be back amongst the top team teams in the ISL, “ Bedia added.
The Gaurs finished ninth in the Indian Super League standings as they could only win 4 matches mustering 19 points. It was one of their worst seasons in the ISL and Bedia feels that will change under the able guidance of Carlos Pena.
FC Goa Director of football, Ravi Puskar also highlighted how Edu Bedia has brought his wealth of experience to this team. He believes that the Spaniard will continue to be at his best for the Gaurs. “Edu has been an instrumental part of FC Goa for the past 6 seasons now and is well ingrained into the club’s philosophy. He’s been a key player for us for the past two seasons and given the significant changes we’ve made in the coaching staff and foreign players this year, he will be an asset with his know-how and familiarity with the league,” he highlighted.
