FC Goa have parted ways with their Spaniard talisman Edu Bedia after he served the team for a long-term of six seasons, the club announced on Sunday. The Spaniard joined FC Goa in 2017 and he has playing a key role in the success of the team since then.
Bedia played an instrumental role in leading the team to the Hero ISL 2019-20 League Winners’ Shield, the 2019 Super Cup, and the 2021 Durand Cup.
The Spaniard is well known for solid midfield game and his services will be deeply missed by the club. The 34-year-old scored three goals and provided four assists in ISL 2022-23 season for the Gaurs but the team could not make it to the playoffs.
Bedia’s best season for FC Goa came back in 2018-19 when he scored seven goals and provided six assists.
“As Edu Bedia’s chapter at FC Goa comes to an end, the Club wishes him the very best in his future endeavours. The Club and its fans will forever be grateful for the countless moments of brilliance, joy, and pride that he has brought to the club,” the club said in a statement.
Ravi Puskur, FC Goa’s Director of Football, spoke highly of Edu’s contribution, stating, “Edu Bedia became ingrained into the very fabric of our club during his extraordinary six-year tenure. His unwavering loyalty and dedication personified the essence of FC Goa, transcending the highs and lows we experienced together.”
He further said: “As a leader, he steered the team through its absolute peak, leading FC Goa as we became the first Indian representative in the prestigious AFC Champions League. Edu’s remarkable leadership qualities were evident in every aspect of his game, both on and off the pitch.
Earlier in the year, Bedia played his 100th ISL match when he turned up for FC Goa for the match against NorthEast United FC. There is no doubt that Bedia is going to be a big miss for FC Goa and it will be hard for them to fill his big shoes.
