Former Real Madrid striker Gareth Bale has backed out-of-form Kylian Mbappe to bounce back. The Los Blancos suffered a 2-0 loss against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday at the Anfield.
Mbappe missed a penalty in the 61st minute and he has been lacking confidence. Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo scored for the Reds in the second half after a goalless first half.
“It does happen. I’ve missed penalties, everyone’s missed penalties,” Bale, who won five Champions Leagues with Madrid, told TNT Sports.
“It’s just unfortunate that at the moment it’s not quite going Mbappé’s way, but I think on his day he’s the best player in the world, and it’s just a matter of time before he comes good.”
On the other hand, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti feels Mbappe is not confident enough but called for patience with the talisman.
Jude Bellingham also backed Mbappe to bounce back and deliver for the club in the upcoming matches.
“It’s [the penalty] obviously a big moment in the game, but it can happen,” teammate Jude Bellingham told TNT Sports. “He’s a wonderful player, but the pressure that he holds, because of how good he is, is huge. It’s humongous.
“The penalty is not the reason why we lost the game … Kylian can keep his head high, I know for sure that he will produce many more moments that are huge for this club.”
Mbappe has scored a solitary goal in the ongoing season of the Champions League after playing five matches and has also provided an assist.
Real Madrid will next host Getafe in La Liga on Sunday.
