A stoppage-time header from Sarthak Golui rescued a crucial point for Jamshedpur FC as they held league leaders Mumbai City FC to a 1-1 draw in a high-intensity Indian Super League clash on April 9 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.
The result keeps Mumbai City at the top of the table with 18 points, while Jamshedpur climb to second with 15, underlining the growing competition at the summit of the 2025-26 season. Brandon Fernandes, who scored the opening goal, was named Player of the Match.
Both teams began with attacking intent, setting a fast tempo early on. Mumbai City created the first opening through Vikram Partap Singh, but Jamshedpur quickly responded with lively forward play led by Mohammed Sanan and Raphael Messi Bouli. The hosts looked threatening on transitions, while Mumbai gradually gained control in the attacking third.
Mumbai’s persistence paid off just before half-time. A flowing move involving Joni Kauko and Noufal PN found Fernandes inside the box. The midfielder turned sharply and struck goalward, with the ball taking a decisive deflection off Stephen Eze before beating Albino Gomes to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Despite falling behind, Jamshedpur remained aggressive. Bouli came close multiple times, including a powerful effort in the first half and a disallowed goal early in the second due to offside. The home side dominated possession after the break, pushing Mumbai deeper into their own half.
Chances continued to come for Jamshedpur, with Nikola Stojanović narrowly missing and Eze nearly capitalising on a goalkeeping error. Mumbai, however, stayed dangerous on the counter, with Lallianzuala Chhangte missing a key opportunity to extend the lead in the 72nd minute.
As the match approached its conclusion, the pressure from Jamshedpur intensified. Mumbai goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa made a series of important interventions, but the breakthrough finally arrived in the 90th minute.
From a corner delivered by Stojanović, Golui rose highest at the far post and directed a header that struck the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line, sparking wild celebrations among the home supporters.
Jamshedpur pushed for a late winner in stoppage time, but Mumbai held firm to secure a point. The contest, marked by momentum swings and late drama, reinforced both teams’ credentials as serious title contenders this season.
