Jadon Sancho’s former coach Paul Simpson has backed the Manchester United forward to bounce back stronger. Sancho has been going through a rough patch, managing only three goals in 14 matches for the Red Devils in the ongoing season.
Sancho had a great run for Borussia Dortmund but he hasn’t been able to replicate the same success for Manchester United. Thus, Sancho couldn’t even get picked in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad of England for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
However, Simpson wants Erik Ten Hag to back Jadon Sancho. In fact, Southgate had backed under-fire Harry Maguire and the experienced England defender was able to deliver for the Three Lions on the big stage.
Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho and the arrival of Antony have made it difficult for Jadon Sancho to get consistent chances in playing XI.
Simpson told The Mirror: “You could say the same about Harry Maguire – different age and everything – but everybody wrote him off last season and even this season. He’s done really well for England, I hope he gets a chance at United if he’s worthy of a place, and I’m quite sure that’ll happen with Jadon because he hasn’t become a bad footballer overnight.”
“He’s obviously just hit the first bump in the road for a young person, and I hope he comes through it because he has got as much ability as any player; he is a fantastic footballer. It’s now just about doing what Erik ten Hag wants him to do, getting himself into a better place, and I’m quite sure we’ll see a lot more of Jadon Sancho.”
There is no doubt that Jadon Sancho has shown all the skills to go a long way in his career but he hasn’t been able to grab his chances for Manchester United.
Manchester United will take on Burnley in the Round of 16 of the EFL Cu on Wednesday.
