FC Goa’s forward Alvaro Vazquez has revealed that his primary objective is to help the team in winning. The Spaniard has shed light on the goals he wants to achieve and he stated that he wants to lead the Gaurs to at least two titles in the ongoing season.
The Spanish forward had played for runners-up Kerala Blasters FC in the previous season. The Spaniard had scored eight goals in 23 matches for the Tuskers in the previous edition of the tournament and thus he had played an instrumental role in taking the team to the final of the season.
However, Kerala Blasters FC could not cross the last hurdle against Hyderabad FC in the final clash. Vazquez joined hands with the Gaurs after his contract with Kerala Blasters FC ended after the previous edition.
Speaking on the individual targets while talking to the official website of Hero ISL, Vazquez said, “The team comes first, always. I like to think that we will lift at least two trophies this season, as we aim to challenge for the League Winners’ Shield, Hero ISL Trophy and the Super Cup. Helping the team to succeed is my primary objective.”
The Spaniard went on to reveal that the team’s head coach Carlos Pena played a key role in convincing him to join hands with the club.
He said, “Before signing here we talked on the phone and he explained to me what he wanted from the team in general. He told me that his team’s philosophy would surely follow the line of last year, which helped me make up my mind in joining FC Goa because I liked their playing style.”
Meanwhile, FC Goa has a host of Spanish players in their squad and Vazquez reckons it plays a crucial role in helping him settle at the club.
The Spaniard added, “Because we work and live together as a team, having Spanish players and coaching staff gives me a slight advantage as it eases day-to-day communication, among other things. On the field, however, it’s not so important. A team is created by training on the field and we all do that together.”
FC Goa will kick off their ISL 2022-23 campaign against East Bengal at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on the 12th of October.
