Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville shared his surprise after he came to know that Cristiano Ronaldo has scored a combined 895 goals for both his country and the club. Ronaldo is regarded as one of the best footballers in the modern game and has been a goal-scoring machine.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s Portugal registered a convincing 3-0 win against Turkiye in their second match of Euro 2024 at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday. Ronaldo provided an assist to his former Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes in the 56th minute and surprised one and all as he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
This assist took Ronaldo’s Euro tally to eight, which is the most in the tournament’s history. Ronaldo has already scored 14 goals in the Euro, which is the highest in the competition.
Gary Neville, who observed Ronaldo from close quarters while playing with him for the Red Devils, said via the Mirror, “I can’t believe it… 895 goals. I mean, that is, it’s not right, that. I mean, I knew he’d scored a few goals, but, honestly. His professionalism, he’s never taken a chance once at any point in his career with his preparation.
“He’s a phenomenon and one of the greatest we’ll ever see. His dedication, his determination to win is unbelievable, and 895 goals is bordering on illegal!”
Ronaldo has scored 128 goals for Portugal whereas he has delivered consistently for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and now Al Nassr.
The talisman was in stellar form for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League 2023-24 season as he scored 35 goals and provided 11 assists in 31 appearances. Furthermore, he scored six goals and two assists in nine matches of the AFC Champions League.
Portugal will next take on Georgia on Wednesday.
