Hyderabad FC and Manolo Marquez have decided to part ways after the end of the ongoing season, the club announced on their social media handles on Tuesday. Marquez led the Nizams to glory in the Hero Indian Super League 2021-22 season after they had beaten Kerala Blasters on penalties.
Hyderabad FC were once again consistent in the recently concluded ISL season, finishing at the second place in the standings with 13 wins in 20 league stage matches. The Nizams mustered 42 points in the ninth season, which is their best ever in the tournament. However, their journey was ended when they lost to eventual champions ATK Mohun Bagan on penalties (4-3) in the semifinal.
Ergo, the Spaniard was able to get the best out of his players at Hyderabad FC. Marquez informed the club about his decision to split, back in February so that the club gets ample time to search for the new candidate.
Marquez joined Hyderabad FC back in August 2020 and took the club to new heights during his stint as a gaffer.
Hyderabad FC owner Varun Tripuraneni said, “It’s been three incredible seasons for the club under Manolo. On behalf of everyone at HFC, I would like to thank Manolo for his immense contribution, which has put the club among the best in the league.”
“Manolo informed us of his decision to leave at the beginning of February itself to give us adequate time to find a suitable replacement. This shows the respect he has for the club,” he added.
Speaking of his decision, Manolo Marquez said, “It has been three wonderful and extraordinary seasons with Hyderabad, and for that I thank everyone at the Club. However, the season is not over yet. We have a very important competition, the Super Cup, where we want to compete and win.”
Hyderabad FC is expected to soon make the announcement regarding their new head coach.
