Hyderabad FC will look to extend its impressive home form when it takes on a strong Mumbai City FC (MCFC) side in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the GMC Balayogi Stadium on Wednesday.
Despite sitting at the bottom of the table in 12th place with 16 points from 20 matches, Hyderabad FC has found renewed confidence at home. The team has secured back-to-back wins, defeating Jamshedpur FC 3-2 and Mohammedan SC 3-1. A victory against Mumbai City would mark their third consecutive home win, a feat they last achieved in late 2022.
However, the challenge is significant, as Mumbai City FC, currently sixth with 31 points, has been in solid form. The Islanders have gone unbeaten in their last seven away matches, winning four and drawing three. Their consistency on the road makes them favourites for the encounter, but Hyderabad will hope to defy the odds with a spirited performance.
The head-to-head record between the two sides reflects a closely fought rivalry. In 11 meetings, Mumbai City FC has won four times, while Hyderabad FC has secured two victories. Five matches have ended in draws.
A key area of concern for Hyderabad will be its defensive organization. The team has conceded nine goals from headers this season, the joint-highest in the league. If they are to secure a result, tightening up at the back will be crucial.
Hyderabad FC’s interim head coach, Shameel Chembakath, remains hopeful ahead of the clash. “The players are very focused on the match against MCFC. We have worked hard and hope to give a positive performance at home,” he said.
On the other hand, Mumbai City FC’s head coach, Petr Kratky, expressed confidence in his team’s ability. “The players have the ability, and that has helped us win crucial points throughout the season. But the important part is that we try and finish as high as possible in the table,” he stated.
With Mumbai City FC pushing to strengthen its position in the standings and Hyderabad FC aiming to continue its home resurgence, the match promises to be an exciting contest.
