I am disappointed: Mumbai City FC’s Petr Kratky reflects on Chennaiyin FC draw

Mumbai City FC head coach Petr Kratky shared his disappointment after a 1-1 draw against Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Saturday.

After no team failed to find the back of the net in the opening half, Ryan Edwards opened the scoring for the Marina Machans at one-hour mark. However, Chennaiyin FC’s lead lasted only three minutes as Nathan Rodrigues equalized for the Islanders.

Mumbai City FC dominated the possession with 71.6% and took four shots on target but they could not find the winner.

Mumbai City FC’s head coach Peter Kratky reflected on the performance in the post-match press conference “I think, I’m always disappointed because I always want to win,” he said.

“We have to also realize that we play football, and we need to get better in that because opposition creates chances. We created goalscoring opportunities but Chennai (Chennaiyin FC) too had goalscoring opportunities. I’m disappointed. We need to improve, but the point is there so we have to take the positives. There were good performances, but we need to get better so we can get three points,” he added.

Kratky showered praise on goal-scorer Nathan Rodrigues and said they are trying to get the best out of the youngsters in the team.

“I have been working with Nathan since I came here to Mumbai City FC, for almost a year. We have had a plan for him as we have for others, like Frankie or Valpuia making the starting XI. Nathan deserves to play, and he does it well. We just keep him motivated and keep him working, because it’s just the start of his career. But we have many more in our team, we need to help also like we help Nathan,” he added.

Talking about the absence of midfielder Jon Toral, Kratky reassured, “John picked up a little bit of tightness in his leg after the Kerala (Kerala Blasters FC) game. We’ve got Jeremy Manzorro, who is a good player, who can step in. We need to look after every player that we need because the season is long so there will be a lot of games.”

Mumbai City FC will next take on Punjab FC at the Mumbai Football Arena, Mumbai on 26th November.
