Mumbai City FC are soaring this season and one of the examples of explaining that has to be Alberto Noguera not starting for them. The Spanish midfielder have not had a single start in this season as Des Buckingham prefers to call him from the bench. However he has had an great impact as he has scored three goals in nine games as he has featured in 398 minutes.
After scoring two goals away from home, Noguera scored the third in their recent win over FC Goa. Mumbai City FC won 4-1 and Noguera scored an absolute belter from a lapse in concentration of the opposition. This has been Noguera’s best season in terms of goals output and it is only his ninth game.
It is because of players like Alberto Noguera’s calibre that the Islanders are still unbeaten in the Indian Super League this season. The fact that Des Buckingham has that option to call someone as good as Noguera from the bench makes you think about Mumbai City FC’s squad depth this season.
In a recent interview with ISL’s official website he shared how his aim is to get more minutes but he clarifies how he is always there for the betterment of the team. Speaking about his current season and his impact role from the bench, Noguera stated, ”I am here to help the team, and I am looking for more minutes. I need to keep going and give my best.”
While Noguera is very confident with his team, he wants to take it slowly. He hence shared how step by step development will help the team. Hence when asked about the Islanders winning the league, he added, “I don’t know. We have to focus on the next game. We have to take it game by game, and we need to keep pushing ourselves, that’s the most important thing.”
Mumbai City FC is a team packed with quality players and have insane depth. Hence ALberto Noguera has found a spot in the bench this season as Des Buckingham seriously does have players like Greg Stewart and Ahmed Jahouh as foreign midfield options. So when quizzed about the team and selection Noguera did not pay much heed as he shared how the players are doing well and getting selected into the starting eleven depends on a lot of factors.
“Everyone is performing well. It depends on the coach who he decides to play and who does not. As players, we need to keep pushing ourselves to play more,” he added.
Lastly he gave a hint of the camaraderie that the team has as he spoke very highly of his teammates specially Greg Stewart and Ahmed Jahouh. He believes that more than the personnel on the pitch it is their commitment to give their best that has kept the team unbeaten and in this position till now.
“t’s always easier when you play with good players. I am happy because we have been performing well collectively. Doesn’t matter if it’s me, Greg (Stewart) or (Ahmed) Jahouh, whoever is playing is giving their best, and that’s important. What matters, in the end, is three points,” he concluded.
