Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes admitted that he hates losing after his team registered a 5-2 win against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Sunday. United had got off to a losing start in the season, suffering a 0-2 loss against Hull City in the opening week.

However, United and Fernandes bounced back in style while playing at home. The Portuguese midfielder scored a hat-trick for the Red Devils, scoring in the 40th, 61st and 68th minute. Jacob Greaves scored an own goal, whereas United’s Bryan Mbeumo also found the back of the net.

“I hate losing. Obviously it was a huge week and to end with a win at home today was massive. I said before the game to be honest; there are certain days you feel it. It is one of those days when everything comes to you and you have to take it,” Bruno Fernandes told the BBC.

United head coach Michael Carrick also showered praise on Fernandes for his stunning performance against Ipswich Town.

“He means a lot. I mean, he’s the captain. He’s been here for a good number of years now and experienced a whole load of different emotions. Times like today, when you’re looking towards certain players to give us that little bit of something else, he did particularly well,” Carrick said. 

Carrick said they are not getting carried away and they are looking to come up with a collective effort.

“I’m not getting carried away,” Carrick said.

“I think we’ve got players within the team, the group, and the squad that are capable of creating and scoring goals and sharing the goals. We shared the goals particularly well last season.

“The biggest pleasing thing for me was, we spoke about actually in the week, about dealing with setbacks. There’s a lot of highlights, and there’s a lot of really good football today.”

United will next face Everton on Sunday.
