SC East Bengal captain Danny Fox is doubtful to start in their next match against NorthEast United FC. Fox went down in the second minute of their previous match against Mumbai City FC and was substituted off the field five minutes later.
“We are not sure about his injury status. Hopefully, we’ll be able to find out in the next two days about the extent of the injury,” East Bengal assistant coach Tony Grant told the club’s website on Wednesday.
“It’s too early to say anything. His leg is a bit sore now, but he is due to go for a scan. We don’t have the exact information right now,” he added.
Grant also said that Aaron Amadi-Holloway, whom East Bengal had recruited from Brisbane Roar before the season started, is expected to be back soon. Amadi-Holloway had twisted his ankle during the pre-season matches and thus had to be on the sidelines all this while. Head Coach Robbie Fowler didn’t seem happy at all after their 0-3 loss to Mumbai City FC in the previous match and thus he will urge his players to bring out their best as soon as possible.
“Aaron twisted his ankle during pre-season training. It can happen to anyone and it has happened to him. It was probably because of the pitch. He should be back shortly,” he said.
Grant also confirmed that Loken Meitei, who played in their season opener against ATK Mohun Bagan, will also be on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
“(He) has sustained some sort of a tear. He had been training well, so the boy is really upset. We’re not sure as to how long he will be out of action. But he has been hitting the gym every day and will give himself the best chance to come back as early as possible,” said Grant.
SC East Bengal haven’t had the best starts to their maiden ISL campaign. They have lost both of their matches thus far and are placed right at the bottom of the table. Their forwards haven’t looked to be in the best shape and their defence has been completely unorganized as well. Not only have they failed to score in these two matches but they have conceded the joint-most number of goals among all teams as well.
