The NorthEast United FC new coach Gerard Nus has expressed his happiness on how things are working out for the club ahead of the seventh edition of the Hero Indian Super League. The Highlanders head coach stated that they want to build something special in the forthcoming season of the ISL.
NorthEast United have secured the services of some exciting Indian as well as foregin players, who can be instrumental in the club’s success. The club was also able to retain Federico Gallego. Thus, the team will look to come up with a collective effort and qualify for the playoff stages for the second time in the franchise’s history.
“I am happy with the roster that we have and the new players that we are bringing. We have a solid mix of experienced and young players. We want to build something special,” the 35-year-old head coach said while talking to goal.com.
On the other hand, Nus added that he wants to get the best out of every player of the squad. Nus stated that he would try to inculcate a fighting spirit in his players and they will not give up until the final whistle is blown by the referee.
“We will have a clear identity of play and will fight for every single ball until the last minute of each game. We will create an environment where we will get the best out of every player, making each other better every day. I am confident that with the help of our supporters, we will achieve all of our goals,” he explained.
NorthEast United is known to give a platform to the young players and Nus is aware of the talent the club has for the upcoming season. Nus wants to give the freedom to his players to play the best brand of football they know.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders had finished the previous season in ninth place as they could only manage two wins from 18 matches of the league stage. Consequently, Nus would be determined to turn the tables in his maiden season as the head coach.
Nus had also stated that he is confident he can help the club in achieving all its goals. The ISL 2020-21 season will begin from November 21.
