Jamshedpur FC registered their third win of the ongoing Hero Indian Super League at the Fatorda Stadium on Monday against Bengaluru as they won by 1-0. Stephen Eze came up with a brilliant header in the 79th minute as the Nigerian stretched at full length to get to the ball.
In fact, Bengaluru FC goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was able to make the save but the ball ricocheted off Eze’s body into the net after the rebound. Jamshedpur FC head coach Owen Coyle was satisfied with the performance of his team and stated that they deserved to win the three points. Coyle feels his team could have scored twice or even thrice as they made a lot of chances.
“Game by game we have steadily improved. We lost three points against FC Goa and then we came out against a wonderful Bengaluru team. We were a real threat; we scored one goal when we could have scored two or three. We deserved the three points,” Coyle said at the post-match press conference.
Despite bagging the three points on offer, Coyle believes there is still scope of improvement in his team’s game and they can get better in the next matches.
“I still think that there is room for improvement. We have David Grande, Nicholas Fitzgerald and Narender Gahlot missing but this group of players gives us everything that we have got. “I believe that we will get stronger in the second half of the season. I have the best group of players. They worked hard and they kept on giving me everything. Credit to them because we clearly deserved the three points.”
On the other hand, Bengaluru FC chief coach Carles Cuadrat feels his team couldn’t make the most of their chances and thus lagged behind in the game.
“Football is a game of dynamics. When you score one goal, it’s easier to score a second one. But when you miss chances like we did in the first half, we get stressed. We need to score for things to go fluently.
“We know the conditions of the league. We know that there are some very tough teams. We were fighting for something from the match just like we did in the last game but it was not possible,” he said.
Jamshedpur FC currently has 13 points and they are placed at the third position in the points table whereas Bengaluru FC is at the four place with 12 points. Jamshedpur will play their next match against Kerala Blasters FC on 10th of January at Tilak Maidan Stadium.
