ATK Mohun Bagan has decided to appoint Juan Ferrando as their new head coach in the ongoing eighth season of the Hero Indian Super League, the club announced in a media release on Monday. The Spaniard will take charge of the club after the Mariners’ former coach Antonio Lopez Habas parted ways with the club following a 3-3 draw against Bengaluru FC on December 16.
Meanwhile, Ferrando triggered a release clause in his contract with FC Goa to join hands with ATK Mohun Bagan. Clifford Miranda, who was the team’s assistant coach, will be take the interim charge of the Gaurs in the ongoing season.
The Spanish manager said he will try to give his best to the club and will look to get the best out of the team for the rest of the season.
“I will give my 110% from day one so that all fans can enjoy the best brand of football and hopefully we can celebrate together. I will consistently work towards helping our team give the best,” Ferrando was quoted as saying in the release.
Meanwhile, Ferrando had taken FC Goa to the semifinal of the previous season of the Hero ISL. Ferrando managed FC Goa for 28 matches in the Hero ISL in which the team won nine matches, 16 games ended in draws, and they suffered six defeats.
ATK Mohun Bagan, which had finished as the runners-up in the last edition of the tournament, hasn’t got off to a great start as they have won two out of the six matches they have played while they have lost two and as many have ended in draws. Thus, the Mariners are currently in seventh place in the points table.
Ferrando will begin his campaign as ATK Mohun Bagan’s head coach against his former club FC Goa. The match will be played at the PJN Stadium on 29th December.
