Kerala Blasters FC have roped in the services of Spanish forward Alvaro Vasquez ahead of the eighth season of the Hero Indian Super League. He joined hands with the club from Sporting de Gijon for the upcoming season and has agreed to stay with Kerala Blasters till 31st May 2022.
The Spaniard began his football career at a tender age as he joined RCD Espanyol’s youth system in 2005. After four years he went on to make his senior team debut and in fact made his LA Liga debut with the same team. The striker went on to join Getafe CF in 2012.
During his tenure with the Spanish club, he was loaned to Swansea City and played in the English Premier League. Subsequently, he returned back to his first club at RCD Espanyol.
Vasquez signed a three year contract with Sporting de Gijon back in 2019. He also played in 2011 FIFA Under-20 World Cup and scored five goals for Spain. The striker has the experience of playing 150 LA Liga and 12 Premier League matches.
“I’m happy that a high-level player like Alvaro is joining us. We are excited about him being a part of our family and hope that along with his quality, he will also bring high energy, leadership and fulfil his potential here,” said Karolis Skinkys, Sporting Director Kerala Blasters FC.
“This is a new stage of my career and I am looking forward to embracing the football and culture of India, something which I have heard a lot about. I will do my best both on and off the field for the team,” said Vazquez.
Vasquez will aim to give his best to the club and hopefully his experience will come good for the team. The eighth season of the Hero ISL is expected to begin from November 19 in Goa.
