SC East Bengal has signed the services of Romeo Fernandes on one year contract before the eighth season of the Hero Indian Super League. The right-winger was with FC Goa for their maiden AFC Cup campaign earlier this year.
In fact, Romeo had played for East Bengal in 2016-19 when he moved from FC Goa on loan. The 29-year is delighted to sign up with SC East Bengal and feels it will be a big challenge for him.
“I can’t express how happy I am. This season is a big challenge for me and I can’t wait to take the field for SC East Bengal. I have played for this club before and I know the passion surrounding this institution,” said Romeo after putting pen to paper for the Red-and-Gold Brigade.
“Personally, and for the team, I have goals in mind and I will give my all in training every day to realize those goals. I am taking one day at a time now and just keeping my focus intact. I am thankful to the SC East Bengal management for providing me with this opportunity,” added Romeo.
Meanwhile, Romeo has good experience of playing overseas as he had become the first Indian player to play in Brazil when he signed for Atlético Paranaense in 2015. After his return from Brazil, Romeo played an instrumental role in taking FC Goa to the final of the Hero ISL in 2015.
Romeo played four seasons for the Gaurs in which he made 49 appearances for the club. The right-winger then played for Delhi Dynamos FC and also represented Odisha FC.
Meanwhile, the seventh season of Hero ISL was SC East Bengal’s maiden stint in the tournament but Robbie Fowler’s team finished at the ninth position after managing only three wins in 20 matches.
