The seventh season of the Hero Indian Super League came to a close as the organizers did a fine job in hosting an interrupted season during the testing time of the coronavirus pandemic. Mumbai City won their maiden ISL season as they defeated ATK Mohun Bagan by 2-1 on Saturday at the Fatorda Stadium.
Meanwhile, it is the goal-scorers who grab the limelight but the mid-fielders who provide assists play an equally important role in setting up the goal. Consequently, they play a crucial role in the success of the team. We take a look at three players who provided the most assists in the season.
1. Alberto Noguera: 8 assists, 20 matches: FC Goa’s mid-fielder Alberto Noguera played an instrumental role in the success of the team. The Spanish footballer provided eight assists in the 20 matches he played. Thus, he played a key role in taking the Gaurs to the semi-final stages. Furthermore, he scored one goal for the team.
2. Roy Krishna: 8 assists, 23 matches: ATK Mohun Bagan’s talisman striker Roy Krishna had a stellar season for his team. Krishna provided eight assists in the 23 matches he played.
Moreover, Krishna found the back of the net on 14 occasions and thus he bagged the Golden Ball award and a cash prize of INR 5,00,000. Krishna played a crucial role in taking his team to the final of the league.
3. Hugo Boumous, 7 assists, 16 matches: Mumbai City FC’s Hugo Boumous impressed with his play in the seventh edition of the ISL. The Frenchman provided seven assists in the 16 matches he played in the season.
Furthermore, he scored three goals for the Islanders. Ergo, he was vital in taking Sergio Lobera’s team to their maiden ISL title. Boumous had a passing accuracy of 70.52 in the season.
