The seventh season of the Indian Super League saw some amazing performances from the top players as well as the teams of the league. Mumbai City was crowned as champions for the first time as they defeated ATK Mohun Bagan by 2-1 at the Fatorda Stadium, Goa on Saturday in the final of the tourney.
We take a look at the top three goal-scorers of the season.
- Igor Angulo – 14 goals, 21 matches: FC Goa’s Igor Angulo scored 14 goals in 21 matches to bag the prestigious award of Golden Boot and also bagged a cash prize money of INR 2,50,000. The Spaniard was instrumental in taking his team to the semi-final stages but they couldn’t go past the Islanders in the penalty shootout as they lost 6-5 in the sudden death.
- Roy Krishna – 14 goals, 23 matches: ATK Mohun Bagan’s talisman Roy Krishna had another superb season as he scored 14 goals in 23 matches. Furthermore, Krishna provided eight assists to come up with an all-around performance. Krishna was awarded the Golden Ball award for his sublime performance throughout the edition.
Note – According to the ISL rules, when two players score the same number of goals, the one who averages fewer minutes to score a goal, wins the Golden Boot award.
Angulo averaged a goal per 117.5 minutes while Roy Krishna needed 147.3 minutes for the same.
- Diego Mauricio – 12 goals, 20 matches: Odisha’s FC striker Diego Mauricio had an impressive season as he found the back of the net on 12 occasions in 20 matches. Furthermore, Mauricio provided two assists for his team.
However, the 29-year old efforts went in vain as Odisha finished as the wooden-spooners of the tournament. Odisha could only win two matches and they were heavily dependent on Mauricio’s shoulders.
