FC Goa new signing Iker Guarrotxena believes joining the club will give him a chance to win trophies in the upcoming season of Indian football. FC Goa has players like Edu Bedia and Alvaro Vazquez and forward Iker Guarrotxena is definitely going to add value to the team.
FC Goa will play under the tutelage of their former player Carlos Pena, who will look to get the best out of his players.
Meanwhile, the Spaniard is confident that he has taken the right decision to play his football in India as the sport and the Hero ISL are growing in the country.
“I have a lot of teammates who have been to India. I checked that Indian football is growing and at 29, it was a good age for me to go to a growing league and be with a team that wants to win something,” Iker told The Times of India.
Iker will have the company of his Spanish compatriots Edu Bedia and Alvaro Vazquez while playing for the Gaurs.
“The presence of a Spanish contingent helps, but I was in Greece, Poland, and even Australia, where I was by myself,” Iker said.
“I know I can do it myself. When you are with good Spanish players, good people among the staff, it creates a good atmosphere to achieve something.”
The striker added that his goal is to win trophies with FC Goa and he is looking forward to giving his best to the club.
“I am trying to win titles, trophies. In football, you don’t have too many options to celebrate something. FC Goa was a good option to win something. My goal is to win a title, a trophy.”
Iker revealed he had a word with FC Goa director of football Ravi Puskur and head coach Carlos Pena before he made the decision to join hands with the club.
“The closest place to achieve this ambition is FC Goa. I spoke with Ravi [Puskur] and then the coach. They told me they have the ability to win something. It’s not easy, but they gave me the energy, the vibes that we’ll be close to doing it,” said Iker.
“When I spoke with Ravi and the coach, I realised that they had plent of information about me. They had seen a lot of my games and the interest was serious. The coach spoke to me and explained how he sees me in the team. There could have been another offer where you are just another player, but here they made me feel good, feel important,” added Iker.
