ISL 2022-23: Mumbai City FC sign Greg Stewart on two-year deal

Mumbai City FC has signed the services of attacking midfielder Greg Stewart on a two-year deal from Jamshedpur FC ahead of the next season of the Hero Indian Super League 2022-23, the club announced on its social media handle.

Stewart had an excellent run for Jamshedpur FC in the previous season and he was also awarded the Hero of the League award for his prolific performances.

The Scottish player scored 10 goals in 21 matches for Jamshedpur FC in the last edition and he finished as the third highest goal-scorer of the tournament. Furthermore, the attacking midfielder also provided 10 assists, which was the highest in the previous season of the Hero ISL.

Stewart played a key role in the success of the team and played a key part in taking to their maiden League Winners Shield trophy after the club finished with 13 wins in 20 matches to top the league stage.

Furthermore, he produced 61 shots and 73 crosses throughout the season. Thus, he is a great signing for the Islanders and he will definitely play a key role in the success of the team.

The club outlined their plans and their ambitions right from the outset and I believe joining Mumbai City is the right step forward to continue my journey in India. The club and the coach Des Buckingham intend to build on what was a momentous season for Mumbai City last time out, including a strong performance in the AFC Champions League, and I believe we can add to the success the club has enjoyed in the recent past,” said Stewart after putting pen to paper.

“Having experienced the ISL up and close for a season now, I believe we’ve got a young but strong and competent squad. I am eager to get on with pre-season, meet my new teammates and make some fantastic memories with the club and the people that make the club, especially our fans,” he added.

He is able to play as a forward as well as a more attacking midfield player, not only bringing people into the game around him but equally able to turn games in key moments by himself. With his vast experience, Greg knows what it takes to be successful and I am confident he will play an important role around the young squad here and at Mumbai City in the near future,” said Des Buckingham, head coach of Mumbai City FC, on the new signing.

On the other hand, ATK Mohun Bagan has signed the services of Australian striker Dimitrios Petratos after the departure of players like David Williams and Roy Krishna.
