ISL 2022-23: We want to create a new identity for Chennaiyin FC – Head coach Thomas Brdaric

Chennaiyin FC’s new head coach Thomas Brdaric wants to create a new identity for the club before the start of the new season of the Hero Indian Super League. Marina Machans could not qualify for the semifinal stages in the previous season as they only managed five wins in their 20 league stage matches. Thus, they finished in eighth place in the points table, and Thomas Brdaric will be determined to turn the tables in the upcoming season.

The two-time ISL champions have been the busiest team in the off-season as they have roped in a number of local and foreign players, who will definitely add value to their team.

The German has all the experience and he will look to get the best out of his players. The team has begun their training under the watchful eyes of Brdaric and the manager wants to begin a new chapter in Chennaiyin FC’s future on a positive note.

“I am pretty happy to have some genuine scorers in the squad. The boys are serious and eager to deliver their best shot this time,” Brdaric told The Times of India in an interview.

“We have started our preparation early this season and boys are looking forward to having a great time on the pitch this time and creating an identity for Chennayin FC,” he added.

Brdaric noted that the Indian players have a hunger to learn and they are giving their best in the training sessions.

“The Indian players are eager; they like to work. I am giving them the support they need. The most important thing for me is to take them to the next level. The foreigners are here to make a difference; that is why we bring them to the club. We have to strike a balance while working together,” Brdaric told DT Next in another interview.

Chennaiyin FC will be looking to be at their best in the Durand Cup before the new season of Hero ISL. The German believes it is imperative for the team to start working on the new strategy.

“First of all, we need to have clear settings. A good strategy has to be in place. We are creating a good team that the players and the fans can identify with. We need time; that is why we started the pre-season early,” Brdaric told DT Next.

“We want our players to maintain good fitness and gain confidence. The players understand that we need to create an identity for the club. We need to have good guidelines for the season. The coaching staff have to build the team step by step. I like the way we are working together,” he added.
