Spanish defender Carlos Delgado has returned to Odisha FC after two years of hiatus before the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League, the club announced on Sunday. Delgado will join hands with compatriot head coach Josep Gombau.
The Spaniard commenced his football journey with Malaga CF youth academy and made his professional debut with the club, for which he played for more than 10 years.
Subsequently, he played for reserve teams like Real Valladolid, UD Almeria and Sparta Rotterdam. After that, he signed with Valencia in 2012 and went on to make his senior team debut in the UEFA Champions League match against Lille.
Josep Gombau said after Carlos Delgado reunited with the club, “First of all, I would like to welcome Carlos back to the club. As a coach, I am very happy that he decided to return to us. He is a player who has a lot of talent and experience in playing in the Indian Super League. Carlos is someone who knows very well what kind of football we want to play and implement at Odisha FC.”
“I want to wish him a very successful year here at the Juggernauts,” Gombau added for the new inclusion to the Juggernauts squad.
Delgado has all the experience under his belt and he will look to bring his best in the upcoming season of the Hero Indian Super League. The defender had played for 1389 minutes in 16 matches in his maiden season for Odisha FC.
On the other hand, Odisha FC finished at seventh position in Hero ISL 2021-22 standings with six wins and a total of 23 points in their 20 league stage matches. Thus, they failed to qualify for the semifinal stages and they will be determined to turn the tables in the next season.
