Kerala Blasters FC head coach Ivan Vukomanovic was proud of how the players responded against FC Goa in the 16th matchweek of the ongoing Indian Super League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi on Sunday. After conceding two goals in the first half, the Yellow Tuskers bounced back in style as they scored four goals in the second half.
The Serbian was proud of the way his players responded after conceding two goals in the opening half. Mohammad Yasir and Rowling Borges scored for the Gaurs but Daisuke Sakai, Dimitrios Diamantakos (brace), and Fedor Cernych got the job done for the home team.
The hosts took a total of seven shots on target and dominated in the second half to bag three crucial points. This win helped them break their three-match losing streak.
“Thank you very much (for the wishes). But I would actually keep that (greetings) for the players because they were awesome tonight. They responded in such a way, especially in the second half. You know as a coach it makes me proud,” stated Vukomanovic in the post-match press conference.
The Serb was delighted with the way his players responded despite being under the cosh at 0-2 down at the end of the first half.
Vukomanovic said, “The way they (the players) responded and the way how they (the players) wanted to fight back, (it was) especially for the badge and for the fans. Maybe we needed that kind of shock or maybe a kind of team talk again during halftime.”
Sharing his approach to remaining games, Vukomanovic doesn’t want to get complacent despite winning nine out of the 16 matches. He added, “We are still nowhere. We are, like I say, in no man’s land. We must not think that we are now great. We still have six big games, big steps to respond and to fight for every minute and every point.”
Kerala Blasters FC will next face Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday.
