Indian Super League 2023-24 came to a close with Mumbai City FC clinching the title after besting Mohun Bagan Super Giant by 3-1 in the final clash at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the strikers always hog the limelight for scoring goals in football but there is no denying the fact that other players also play a key role in setting up the goal.
We take a look at the top three assist providers of the season.
- Madih Talal: Punjab FC midfielder Madih Talal played at his best and provided 10 assists in 22 appearances for the Shers in the recently concluded season. Talal also scored six goals for Staikos Vergetis’ team. Punjab FC could not qualify for the playoff as they finished in eighth place with six wins in 22 games.
- Rafael Schuler Crivellaro: Chennaiyin FC’s Rafael Schuler Crivellaro provided seven assists in 22 matches for the club in the ISL 2023-24 season. Thus, he played an instrumental role in taking the Marina Machans to the playoffs as the team finished in sixth place in the standings with eight wins in 22 games. The 35-year-old Brazilian also scored four goals for the club.
- Manvir Singh: Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s Manvir Singh assisted on seven occasions in the 23 matches he played in the season. Ergo, he played a key role in helping the Mariners clinch the League Shield and also make it to the final of the tournament. Singh also found the back of the net on four occasions.
MBSG’s Dimitri Petratos also provided seven assists in 23 matches he played for the club. Petratos also scored 10 goals for the Mariners in the season as he played at the top of his game. Thus, he received the Golden Ball award for his consistent performances.
