Mohammedan SC’s head coach Andrey Chernyshov was not happy after 1-1 draw against FC Goa in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday. After a goalless first half, the hosts took the lead after Argentina’s Alexis Gómez scored from the spot kick in the 66th minute.
However, Armando Sadiku scored his second goal of the season as he equalized for the Gaurs in the 94th minute.
Mohammedan SC took seven shots on target during the match but failed to grab all three points as the Albanian found the equalizer in the dying minutes.
The Russian manager shared his disappointment as they could not capitalize on their chances despite taking a total of 18 shots.
“We had so many chances—not 50-50 chances, but 100% chances. But we didn’t score,” he said in the post-match press conference.
“And in the last minute, they put in a cross, and they have an experienced striker who knows how to be in these situations. He (Sadiku) came and scored. We are not happy with this result because we were 1-0 up but ended with a 1-1 draw,” he added.
Chernyshov commended his players’ efforts by saying, “Again, thank you very much to the players. They showed amazing football and (marked) their attendance in the ISL with a good combination of confidence.”
The gaffer feels 25 days are not enough for the preseason and the players should be given at least one and a half months to prepare for the season.
“25 days is not enough for the preseason; it must be a minimum of 45 days. They (FC Goa) played many tournaments; they played many friendly matches. Today, after 75 minutes, we got tired. They started to control the ball and the match. Many actions were taking place near our goalpost. We will work for that,” he said.
“But now we have not enough time. In three days, we have an away match (against Chennaiyin FC). We will continue to work on physical conditions,” the head coach signed off.
Mohammedan SC will next take on Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Thursday.
