Mohun Bagan Super Giant has named Jose Francisco Molina as their new coach for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League 2024-25. Molina will take over the coaching baton from his compatriot Antonio Lopez Habas.
Habas led the Mariners to their first League Shield during the 2023-24 season but the team could not cross the last hurdle against Mumbai City FC in the final clash of the tournament as they lost by 3-1. However, the club has decided to part ways with Habas despite his consistent performances.
Mohun Bagan SG has made it to back-to-back finals and Molina will look to keep the good show for the club.
Meanwhile, Jose Molina earlier led the club to glory in the 2016 edition and incidentally had taken over from Antonio Habas. Molina is delighted to join hands with the Kolkata-based club.
“I am honoured to be part of Mohun Bagan Super Giant, a club with a rich legacy. I hope to bring more success to the club and its fans,” Molina said to the club media after joining the ISL 2022–23 Cup winners.
The Spaniard will look to get the best out of his players in the upcoming season and guide them on the right track.
Showering his gratitude to the club officials, Molina reacted, “I would also like to thank Dr Goenka for giving me this opportunity and giving me the responsibility to take charge as head coach of Mohun Bagan Super Giant.”
Meanwhile, Molina also had a stint as the Sporting Director of the Royal Spanish Football Federation from 2018 to 2022.
