India is going through pretty tough times as the country continues to battle against the raging COVID-19 pandemic. Many have lost their lives and the daily wage earners are sitting at home unemployed, without adequate food and essentials to get by. In order to ease their lives, two Indian Super League outfits — Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC — have decided to join their fight against the pandemic.
The Chennaiyin FC Foundation on Thursday announced that they will provide coronavirus-hit families from the marginalized communities of the city by supplying dry ration kits. According to a press release, they have teamed up with one of the ISL sponsors ACKO Insurance in supporting Akshaya Patra Foundation’s initiative to supply the dry ration kits.
The initiative has been quite successful as the CFC Foundation and ACKO Insurance have raised INR 10 Lakhs so far to help the cause. Each ration kit put together consists of rice, pulses, spices, oil, wheat, sugar, salt among other grocery items which will help the troubled families in getting through these difficult times.
The CFC Foundation and ACKO Insurance has also urged the fans and supporters to donate generously towards this cause.
“It has been our endeavour to drive tangible relief to those affected by this dreaded pandemic, Vita Dani, co-owner of Chennaiyin FC, said.
“In Akshaya Patra Foundation, we found a partner who is carrying out relief work at a massive scale, and along with our club sponsors ACKO Insurance we identified this to be a cause that will help families considerably,” he added.
Kerala Blasters FC, on the other hand, celebrated their Foundation day by donating 10,000 N95 masks to the Kerala Government. The club has also been using its social media handles to amplify COVID-19 related messages.
“The club is trying their best to reach out to people in all possible ways. Given the severity of the situation, we deem it necessary to hand out N95 masks to help our brave frontline and emergency workers in this fight against the soaring pandemic. Let’s all do our bit by respecting all the mandates and recommendations by our health and public officials,” said KBFC Director Nikhil Bhardwaj.
