Chennaiyin’s FC head coach Owen Coyle wants to take the club to greater heights again. Coyle was recently re-appointed as the team’s manager on a multi-year deal. Coyle has all the experience in the Indian football circuit as he led Marina Machans to glory in the 2019-20 season and he will be looking to replicate the same success.
Subsequently, Coyle also led Jamshedpur FC to Hero League Shield triumph in ISL 2021-22 season with a total of 43 points, which was the highest at the time, after winning 13 out of the 20 league stage matches.
Coyle is hopeful of getting the best out of the young players in the upcoming season and guiding them on the right track.
“Obviously, I can’t sit here and name names because there are players who I would love to bring to the football club. There are players at the club that I know, for example, I know Rahim, who is an outstanding player, and there are other young players who I have seen playing but I have not worked with,” Coyle stated in an interaction with PTI.
“But when I get to work with them, I will see all their qualities. Hopefully I can help. Hopefully, I can improve them, as I have done in my time in Indian football,” he added.
Coyle is well known to back an aggressive mode of play and he will be looking to deliver the goods for Marina Machans.
“We (his teams in the ISL) have played an exciting brand of football, and we want to do that again. We want to take care of the ball. We want to have exciting players. I love my wingers, as you know,” he expressed
“I love exciting players, you know, who take people on. So, we want to build an exciting team. But to do it, it is going to take time,” he added.
Coyle brings to the table his vast experience of coaching from the English Premier League. The veteran also had successful stints in the Major League Soccer (MLS) with Houston Dynamos in the United States.
Meanwhile, Marina Machans could not even qualify for the playoffs in the previous season and Coyle will look to turn the tables in the upcoming season.
