FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando has revealed that it is his dream to take the club to glory in the Indian Super League. After a decent performance in the group stage of AFC Champions League, where the Gaurs finished at the third place after three draws in the six matches, Ferrando has set his eye on the ISL.
FC Goa had qualified for the semifinal in the seventh season of the Hero ISL but their journey was ended by eventual winners Mumbai City as they lost 6-5 on the penalties. Furthermore, Goa has qualified for the semi-finals and finals on a total of six occasions but haven’t been able to go all the way in the league.
Ferrando stated that the club still needs to improve a lot and the ISL 2020-21 finalists – ATK Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC are on another level.
“We need to improve a lot. The club is at 14 percent of its potential. ATK Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC are on another level, but FC Goa is the best for me. Good players, a good team, people who work in the club, and the best supporters. It’s a dream to win the league. This is my obsession,” said Ferrando as quoted by IANS.
Meanwhile, FC Goa became the first Indian club to qualify for the group stage of AFC Champions. Ferrando lauded the performance of his team despite the fact that they couldn’t go beyond the group stage. Goa were able to bag three points and finished at the third place in Group E.
“Everyone thought FC Goa would lose 4-0, 5-0 in Asia. But if everyone works as a team, you have a chance. If there is a good plan, we can try. In Asia, the challenge was to be focused for 90 minutes …One detail and if you are not ready to do your job, it’s an opportunity for the opponent,” the Spanish tactician said.
There is no doubt that FC Goa has taken giant strides under Juan Ferrando and they will look to come up with a collective performance in the next season.
