Indian Super League outfit Kerala Blasters have announced their new signing Harmanjot Singh Khabra. The 33-year-old footballer has a lot of experience in the Indian circuit and can play all along the backline and also in defensive midfield.
The former Bengaluru FC man comes to God’s own country with a great amount of experience and versatility. He is a player who will allow the new head coach Ivan Vukomanovic to try out different styles in defence without losing much quality.
The 33-year-old plied his trade on the right-back position at Bengaluru FC. He combined really well with Sunil Chhetri and provided three assists and had a decent season as the Blues were largely underwhelming. He featured in 16 matches last season and clocked 1416 minutes.
Khabra was instrumental at both Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC. He helped the Marina Machans to the ISL trophy back in 2015. He later replicated the feat with Bengaluru FC when he won the ISL trophy in 2019. The 33-year-old has also won the Super Cup in 2017 with the Blues and the Federation Cup with East Bengal back in 2012.
“Kerala Blasters FC is happy to announce the signing of defender Harmanjot Khabra for the upcoming seasons of the ISL till 2023. A professional footballer since 2006, he is a versatile player who can play both in defense and in midfield. Khabra, who started his youth career at the Tata Football Academy, has over 200 appearances in various tiers of Indian football, including the fourth-highest number of appearances (102) in the ISL,” the club’s statement read.
Khabra made his name in East Bengal. He made his debut in the AFC Cup with the Red and Golds. He then joined Chennaiyin FC and played an important role in their semifinal run. He spent three seasons with Marina Machans winning the ISL title in 2015.
“I am very excited to join Kerala Blasters. The opportunity to play for the passionate Yellow Army aligns with my love and passion for the game. I look forward to donning the KBFC colours with pride and hunger. And I’m very keen to meet my new teammates and start preparing for the journey ahead,” said Khabra who was delighted after signing for the Blasters.
The experienced versatile defender becomes the fourth new signing for the Yellow Army. They have already snapped up Ruivah Hormipan, Sanjeev Stalin and Vincy Barreto for the upcoming season.
