Kerala Blasters are keen to hold onto some of their best players from last season who helped them reach the Indian Super League finals. Therefore the Blasters have signed an extension with young midfielder Jeakson Singh. The new deal will keep him at the club till 2025.
Kerala Blasters made it to the ISL playoffs after six years as they played scintillating football under the tutelage of their Serbian head coach Ivan Vukomanovic. The Blasters even were in the reckoning to win the League winners shield as they led the league on points for the first time in their history. However, a slight slump in their season saw them lose out that spot but they defeated ISL Shield winners Jamshedpur FC in the playoffs to reach the finals. However, they once again failed to thrive under pressure as they faced Hyderabad FC in the title clash. It took a penalty shootout to decide the champions of ISL as the Blasters experienced agony yet again.
In their journey to the ISL finals, Jeakson SIngh played a huge role alongside Lalthanga Khawlring in the double pivot as they allowed Vukomanovic to play Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Alvaro Vazquez together in attack with Adrian Luna supporting them from the flanks. It was a bold move from Ivan Vukomanovic and it worked out like a charm. The 20-year-old midfielder made 19 appearances as he scored a solitary goal and also came up with a couple of assists.
Jeakson has shown terrific maturity this season under the Serbian tactician as he was allowed to play in his favourite role of defensive midifelder. Earlier Kibu Vicuna used him as a centre back looking at his passing skills and ability to build from the back. Jeakson thrives in both positions but it is playing and dominating balls in midfield that gives him the maximum satisfaction as a player.
The 20-year-old is technically very sound as he has been with the Indian age group teams for many years. He even featured at the U17 World Cup which happened back in 2017. He even scored the historic goal for Indian against Colombia.
Overall it is a great move for the Blasters as they aim to fight for the title yet again next season. With Jeakson gradually developing more, his best is yet to come in the Yellow of the Blasters. His recent exploits have been rewarded as Indian team head coach Igor Stimac has called him in the 41 probable for the national team as they prepare for the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers third round.
