Kerala Blasters have already begun their planning for next season as they are offering long term contracts to some of their Indian youngsters who can be great assets for them in the future. After Bijoy Varghese, the Blasters have signed an extension with India international Jeakson Singh. The former FIFA U-17 World Cupper has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club for another three years until 2025.
Jeakson was superb last season especially his partnership with Puitea in the middle forming the double pivot allowed head coach Ivan Vukomanovic to play Alvaro Vazquez and Jorge Pereyra Diaz together while Adrian Luna played as an attacking inverted winger. The only foreigner they had on the defensive side of things was Marko Leskovic and in some matches Enes Sipovic also had his chances.
The young midfielder had a tough role in the middle of the park but he did his job with aplomb. He was brilliant in getting the ball back and his superlative passing helped the Blasters create play from deep in midfield whilst having a attack heavy team throughout the season.
The 20-year-old featured in 19 matches this season and had a passing accuracy of 83.15% with 84 tackles and 38 interceptions. His physical stature also helped him in midfield tussles for the ball. But overall he was a very vital cog in Ivan Vukomanovic’s system and will continue to be the player for some time now in the Kerala yellow..
Jeakson got injured in the last stretch of the Indian Super League as the Kerala Blasters defeated Shield winners Jamshedpur FC in the playoffs before going down against Hyderabad FC in the final on penalty shootout.
Therefore the 20-year-old will hope to be more injury free in the coming years as he can be an asset for not only Kerala Blastes but also for the Indian national team.
“I am delighted to continue my association with this amazing club, which I consider very close to my heart. I thoroughly enjoyed myself playing for Kerala Blasters in the past three seasons and I am very grateful that I will be able to continue donning the yellow shirt,” Jeakson said in elation after signing the extension.
“Last year we came very close to create history but missed it in the end. I hope to achieve success with the club in the coming seasons,” he added.
Kerala Blasters Sporting Director Karolis Skinkys is also very delighted with the extension of the young midfielder. he feels that Jeakson has the potential to be India’s best player and is currently far from potential.
‘I’m very happy about deal with Jeakson. He has the potential to be one of the best players in India and is still far from his potential. I don’t have any doubt on his work ethic and professionalism. I look forward to working with him and to chasing our targets together,” Skinkys said after the youngster extended his contract.
