Girona head coach Michel reckons Lamine Yamal can be as good as Lionel Messi. Yamal scored a brace in Barcelona’s 4-1 win against Girona at Montilivi on Sunday. The young Spaniard found the back of the net in the 30th and 37th minute of the game whereas Dani Olmo and Pedri also scored for the visitors.
Meanwhile, Messi is regarded as one of the best players in the world and has won everything in his glittering career.
Yamal has taken the football world by storm with his insane skills and brilliant talent. Yamal, who is only 17, has shown the skills to go a long way in his young but promising career. The youngster recently admitted it is impossible to reach Messi’s level.
Last year, he became the youngest player to score in the La Liga history and the whole of the football world took notice when he made his Euro debut with Spain.
The youngster played an instrumental role in taking Spain to Euro championships as he scored one goal and provided four assists in seven matches he played in the tournament.
“Lamine is a difference-maker,” Míchel said in a news conference. “For me, he is already one of the best players in the world at 17 years of age.
“It is difficult to imagine that after Messi another [like him] would come along, but I hope that Lamine keeps improving because he’s a player than can reach that level.”
Before the match against Girona, Yamal had provided four assists. Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was delighted that the youngster scored himself against Girona.
“I was really happy because he scored the goal,” Flick said of his reaction to the opening goal. “Lamine normally gives the last pass and I was happy that he scored today.”
Barcelona will next take on Monaco in UEFA Champions League on Thursday at the Stade Louis II.
