Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique wants to complete the Champions League three-peat with the club. The Parisians defeated Arsenal by 1-0 in the summit clash in the previous season and they thrashed Inter Milan by 5-0 in the 2024-25 edition.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid (twice), Ajax and Bayern Munich are the only three teams to have completed successive three-peats in Europe’s most elite club football tournament.
“We’ve won it [Champions League] twice in a row, but that’s no reason to stop,” the Spanish coach said.
“We’re built to play in the Champions League. We have an extra incentive: to try and achieve something that only Real Madrid has managed to do so far. It’s a special goal.”
PSG started their title defense with a commanding 6-1 win against Slovan Bratislava last month. The Ligue 1 champions will face Manchester City on Wednesday and host Luis Enrique’s former club Barcelona on Oct. 20, whom he guided to Champions League glory in 2015.
“These [Man City and Barcelona] are two teams that love winning the Champions League, who have already won it and who are among the favourites,” Luis Enrique said. “There are six, seven or eight teams capable of winning this Champions League. We’re one of them, but it’ll be tough and we’re not the clear favorites.”
Under Enrique’s tutelage, PSG has won a total of 13 titles.
“That was our primary objective when we arrived here: to make history,” he said.
“Everyone knew the club had already won major trophies, but there was no trophy more important to us than the Champions League. For me, as a manager, just as for the players, the desire to win constantly is an essential characteristic of the very highest level.”
PSG will look to continue their supremacy.
