NorthEast United have signed the services of Portugese winger Luis Machado for the upcoming season of the Hero Indian Super League. Machado joins hands with the club after the signing of Mauritanian International Khassa Camara.
The 27-year old striker has played most of his football in Portugal top division, Liga NOS. He started his youth career at SCU Paredes in Portugal’s second division, before joining SC Freamunde in 2011. Subsequently, he went on to make his professional debut for FC Freamunde.
Then in 2014, Luis made a move to CD Tondela and he was also part of the team which got a promotion to top division Liga NOS in his maiden season. The forward scored three goals in 31 matches for CD Tondela in that particular season.
During the 2015-16 January Transfer window, Luis made a move to second division team CD Feirense. He was also able to help the club in earning the promotion before spending three more years with the Liga NOS outfit.
However, Feirense was relegated after the 2018-19 season and then Luis made a move to Moreirense FC, where he played 24 matches in which he scored one goal and provided three assists.
Meanwhile, the addition of Luis Machado will add power to the NorthEast United FC squad. Machado will aim to deliver the goods under the tutelage of new head coach Gerard Nus. Machado will team up with Uruguayan striker Fedrico Gallego, who has been retained by the club for one more season.
The Highlanders had a poor last edition as they could secure only two wins from the 18 league stage matches to finish at the ninth place in the points table.
Thus, NorthEast United will be determined to turn the tables in their favour in the upcoming edition of the league. The ISL 2020-21 will begin from November 21.
