Manchester United are prepared to reject any offer for captain Bruno Fernandes before next month’s transfer deadline, with the club making it clear that the Portugal international is not for sale.
Turkish side Galatasaray and Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan have been considering approaches for the midfielder.
Galatasaray were reportedly preparing a proposal that could have reached €50 million (£42.7 million), but senior sources at Old Trafford believe the Turkish club would be wasting its time pursuing the deal.
United have adopted a much firmer stance than they did last summer, when Fernandes was given the choice over whether to accept a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.
United sources say no formal bid has been received for the 31-year-old so far, but the club’s position is that Fernandes is not available at any price.
The midfielder has one year remaining on his current contract, with an option for a further season, while talks over a new deal have yet to produce an agreement.
Fernandes also appears keen to remain at Old Trafford, despite the uncertainty surrounding his contract.
A £57 million release clause in his existing agreement has now expired, strengthening United’s control over his future as they seek to retain their captain and key creative player.
The midfielder enjoyed an outstanding Premier League campaign last season, registering a record 21 assists and scoring nine goals.
He is also the favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award for the 2025-26 season, with the prize due to be presented in Manchester next week.
United’s determination to keep Fernandes is also being reinforced by the reaction of their supporters.
The enthusiastic reception he received from fans during last week’s pre-season match against Leeds in Dublin underlined his importance to the club, with United aware that any decision to sell their captain would likely provoke a strong backlash from supporters.
