Former Indian Super League champion head coach Manolo Marquez will step down from the managerial position at Hyderabad FC at the end of the ongoing season. The club has made it oficial with a statement on their social media handles.
Marquez will remain as the Hyderabad FC head coach for the upcoming Super Cup campaign and the following playoff for the continental spot. He will be aiming to finish his tenure on a high and hence the players will be more motivated to do well at the Super Cup.
Ever since joining the club in 2020 when they were fighting for the wooden spoon to making them win the ISL trophy in the 2021-22 season, Marquez’s hand in Hyderabad FC’s turnaround is simply undeniable. He brought a specific style of play, developed players to play that way. Brought in foreigners who can make major impact and finally won the title in 2021 when they defeated Kerala Blasters on penalties in the finals. The Nizams did well this season as well as they finished second to Mumbai City in the league phase and then lost to eventual winners ATK Mohun Bagan in the playoffs.
He must be credited heavily regarding Hyderabad’s comeback into the Indian football scene. The football frenzy state which has given India such big names was getting lost. Until Marquez and his Nizams brought them back to life.
Apart from all this Marquez’s massive work in developing young Indian players and working on their weaknesses is very much laudable. His work at club level has helped the Indian national team as some of the players have flourished at Hyderabad FC before donning the India blue.
“It’s been three incredible seasons for the club under Manolo. On behalf of everyone at HFC, I would like to thank Manolo for his immense contribution, which has put the club among the best in the league,” HFC owner Varun Tripuraneni.
He hailed the Spaniard’s professionalism as he revealed that the Spaniard has informed the owners and officials about his decision in February so that the team can get enough time to figure out a new head coach.
“Manolo informed us of his decision to leave at the beginning of February itself to give us adequate time to find a suitable replacement. This shows the respect he has for the club,” Varun added.
Manolo also shared his thoughts and expressed his gratitude. He said, “It has been three wonderful and extraordinary seasons with Hyderabad, and for that I thank everyone at the Club. However, the season is not over yet. We have a very important competition, the Super Cup, where we want to compete and win.”
The Nizams are in process to finalize their new head coach. But there are high chances that it get revealed only after the Super Cup.
