England’s forward Marcus Rashford said they must bring maximum intensity in their second World Cup match against Ghana, which the opposition can’t cope up with. The Three Lions registered a comprehensive 4-2 win against Croatia in their opening game of the tournament and would look to continue the winning impetus to secure their knockout spot.
Rashford had also found the back of the net for Thomas Tuchel’s team after coming on as a substitute. Earlier, Harry Kane scored a brace in the first half whereas Jude Bellingham had put England in front right after the break.
“I think we have to bring an intensity that they can’t live with and we try and stick to that,” Rashford told the Football Association.
“If we can play at that level, it can win you games.
“The one thing we can predict is how we conduct ourselves over 90 minutes or 120 minutes.
“So, I think we just have to focus on that as players. We just have to keep pushing ourselves. We’re definitely capable.”
A win against Ghana will seal England’s place in the round of 32 with a match to go.
Meanwhile, Rashford is in competition with Anthony Gordon, who started against Croatia, for his place in the team. The forward said they have to fight for each other as they do while playing for their respective clubs.
“We’re one team and we have to fight for each other in the exact same way that you fight for your club teams,” the forward, now at his fifth major tournament, said. “That’s the norm now.
“We understand it’s difficult because everybody wants to play and a lot of players deserve to play. At some point, players are going to be disappointed, but it’s about how you handle it.”
England will next take on Ghana in Foxborough, Massachusetts, in Group L on Tuesday.
