Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has opined that his team has no fear even if the club ends the season without any trophy. City are currently six points behind table-toppers Arsenal in the Premier League but Pep Guardiola’s team have one more game in hand to reduce the six-point deficit.
The Gunners lost points as they suffered a 2-1 loss against Bournemouth while playing at home on Saturday whereas the Sky Blues registered a 3-0 win against Chelsea on Sunday.
Arsenal lost the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City whereas they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton.
Arteta said: “Fire. I am on fire. That’s it. Nothing else. I’m dreaming so much. I’ve done so much to be in this position because I know how this club was.
“I have done so much against everything that I just see beauty, opportunity and I want to get it done for all these people who have been on this journey with us and because they deserve it. They have been unbelievable.
“I have zero fear. Fear I have when ‘oh if we don’t get this done, this club I don’t know what is going [to happen].’ Now, there is no fear — just purpose, fire and conviction we are going to do it.”
Arsenal will take on Sporting CP in the Champions League’s second leg quarterfinal at home. The Gunners have a 1-0 advantage in the first leg.
Sporting CP head coach Rui Borges said his team must remain true to itself against Arsenal.
“The team must remain true to itself and to what it has been up to now. Regardless of the opponent, or the competition we’re playing in,” Borges said Tuesday. “I don’t need to talk about hunger because this team demonstrates it every day and in every match. Tomorrow we have to be a team true to ourselves, true to what we’ve been. Enjoy the game with the responsibility that comes with it, of course, and in pursuit of something unprecedented for the club, for us as a team.
“We’re aware of the difficulties.
