Mohammedan SC’s midfielder Amarjit Singh Kiyam wants to play an instrumental role in the success of the club in the ongoing Indian Super League. Mohammedan SC has managed a solitary win in seven matches and has managed two draws and have suffered four losses.
Andrey Chernyshov’s team is in 12th place in the standings with five points under their belt. Meanwhile, Amarjit Singh Kiyam has played six matches for the club but he is yet to find the back of the net.
Amarjit said he is grateful for the opportunity to play for Mohammedan SC and he wants to get the job done for the Kolkata-based club.
“I’m very grateful to be part of the Mohammedan SC family. This is one of the oldest clubs in India, and it’s starting a new chapter in the ISL. It’s a new chapter for me too—I want to help the team succeed and achieve my individual goals here,” Kiyam said in an exclusive interview with RevSportz.
The 23-year-old midfielder said it is imperative for them to take one game at a time to make it to the playoffs of the tournament after a poor start to the season.
“We can’t say that we’re aiming straight for the top 6. Obviously, we’d love to reach the top 6 and even the finals, but we have to take it match by match and build from there,” he said.
The youngster revealed he was inspired to pick up football after watching his elder brother, Umakanta Singh, who also represented the country at the youth level.
“I began playing football after seeing my brother’s journey. If he hadn’t played, I wouldn’t have either. He got the chance to play for India’s U-16 and U-17 teams and showed me the path. Right now, playing in the ISL is a dream come true, and my brother’s guidance has been invaluable,” stated Singh.
Mohammedan SC will take on Bengaluru FC at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata on 27th November after international break.
