Reigning Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant have announced their biggest signing of the season in Jason Cummings. The Australian striker who guided the Central Coast Mariners to the A-League title is all set to take up the Indian challenge.
Cummings has signed a three-year contract with the club and will look to put their best foot forward when it comes to playing next season. Cummings has featured in the third tier and second tier of England and Scotland. He has spent his entire career in the United Kingdom before making his way to Australia only in the 2021-22 winter transfer market.
The Australian international shared how he looked up Mohun Bagan’s rich history after they were interested in signing him. He also assures the fans and the team management that he will help in adding more silverware to the club’s trophy cabinet.
“I have been observing Indian club football for the last few years. When Mohun Bagan Super Giant approached me, I started to inquire about the club and got to know about the rich heritage of this century-old club. Besides, this club has achieved the status of being the best club in India by winning the Hero ISL title. I am hopeful that I will help them add more trophies to their trophy cabinet in the upcoming three years,” Cummings stated after putting pen to paper.
In recent times, Cummings is one of the most decorated players to join the club as he won the A-League title, the Scottish Cup and the Scottish second league winner with Hibernian FC. He will aim to extend that run in the Green and Maroon of the Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
Cummings appeared 50 times for the Central Coast Mariners as he helped them lift their second-ever A-League title. Overall, Cummings smashed 31 goals and 12 assists for the club during his time.
His consistent performances handed him a call-up to the Australia national team in September 2022. He made it to the Australian squad for the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He featured in the 4-1 defeat against France in their opening fixture.
MBSG head coach Juan Ferrando was delighted with Cummings’ arrival at the club. He highlights that the Australian star has exceptional ball control and is very clinical in front of goal. “Everyone knows how good of a footballer Jason is. He enjoys playing a highly attacking and pressing style of football, which perfectly aligns with my strategy. He possesses excellent ball control, creating space for others, and is clinical in front of goal. Another admirable quality of his is – that he is a perfect team player,” Ferrando said in delight.
Cummings became the second foreign addition for Mohun Bagan Super Giant after they announced the signing of Albanian international Armando Sadiku.
