Mumbai City FC has made a strategic move to enhance their defense by signing 24-year-old defender Sahil Panwar. This acquisition comes at a crucial time for the Islanders, who are looking to fill the void left by skipper Rahul Bheke’s departure to his former club, Bengaluru FC. Panwar’s addition is expected to bring a fresh dynamism to the team’s backline.
Panwar first caught the attention of Pune FC scouts during the Subroto Cup, a tournament known for spotlighting emerging Indian football talent. His impressive performance there earned him a spot at FC Pune City, where he made his Indian Super League (ISL) debut in 2018. Over the years, Panwar has also played for Hyderabad FC and Odisha FC, gaining valuable experience and showing his defensive prowess.
Expressing his excitement about joining Mumbai City FC, Panwar said, “I am thrilled to join Mumbai City FC, a club with a rich history and strong ambitions that it fulfills season after season. I am grateful for the opportunity provided to me, and I am committed to working hard to contribute to the club’s success. I look forward to meeting my new teammates, Coach Petr Kratky, and the amazing fanbase of the club.”
Head coach Petr Kratky also shared his enthusiasm for the new signing, stating, “Sahil Panwar has been one of the most consistent defenders in the league for a while. His valuable experience and abilities will help us reach our goals. We have seen him play, and his qualities at the back will be crucial for us next season. We look forward to having him here and working with him.”
The addition of Panwar comes amid significant changes in Mumbai City FC’s roster. The departure of key players like Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Alberto Noguera, and Rahul Bheke has prompted the club to seek out apt replacements to maintain their competitive edge.
Alongside Panwar, the club has signed several other notable players including Brandon Fernandes from FC Goa, midfielder Jeremy Manzorro, former Arsenal player Jon Toral, and Greek striker Nikolaos Karelis. Additionally, TP Rehenesh, Daniel Lalhlimpuia, and Noufal PN have been brought on board.
Mumbai City FC has also focused on retaining key talents by extending the contracts of important players such as Lallianzuala Chhangte, Jayesh Rane, Tiri, and Valpuia. These moves reflect the club’s strategic approach to building a robust squad capable of competing at the highest levels.
As the new season approaches, Mumbai City FC fans have much to look forward to with these new additions. Sahil Panwar’s arrival, in particular, is anticipated to strengthen the defense and add depth to the squad. His journey from the Subroto Cup to the ISL highlights his determination and skill, making him a valuable asset for the Islanders.
