Brazilian forward Neymar has backed idol Vinicius Junior for the Ballon d’Or award. Vinicius had a spectacular run in the previous season for Real Madrid and he is one of the favorites to bag the prestigious award on 28th October.
Meanwhile, Kaka was the last Brazilian to clinch the coveted prize back in 2007 and the Real Madrid striker will look to put an end to that trend.
“We have a wonderful relationship,” Neymar told Band Sports. “I love Vini. He’s a great friend that football introduced me to. He had a great season, played a lot. I will definitely be rooting for him to win the Ballon d’Or. For me, there is no one else to win but him.”
Vinícius scored 24 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for Real Madrid and played a key role in Champions League and La Liga glory.
Neymar, who is recovering from an injury, said it is Vinicius’ time to shine and bag the award.
“We hope this [Ballon d’Or] returns to Brazil soon,” the Al Hilal forward said. “Let it be with Vini. He’s a guy that deserves it, he suffered a lot throughout his life, but he exceeded expectations, he surpassed the criticisms made of him. Today he has become a great idol, a great hero. I’m very happy that he’s carrying this Brazilian flag around the world.”
In the ongoing La Liga season 2024-25, Vinicius Jr has scored four goals and provided as many assists in the nine matches he played for the Los Blancos.
The Brazilian forward will look to continue the good show in the upcoming matches for Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
