Neymar could have another opportunity to reunite with Lionel Messi in Major League Soccer, with Inter Miami again being linked with a move for the Brazilian star in 2027.
Reports in Brazil have connected Neymar with Inter Miami as his contract with Santos approaches its expiration at the end of December. Brazilian reporting cited by other outlets has raised Miami as a possible destination once Neymar’s current agreement expires, although there is no confirmed deal or formal negotiation between the player and Inter Miami.
That distinction remains important. Neymar has not agreed to join Inter Miami, and neither the MLS club nor Santos has announced negotiations over a transfer.
What is confirmed is that Neymar’s future at Santos remains unresolved.
The 34-year-old is under contract through the end of 2026. Ge reported in late August that Santos and Neymar were not negotiating a renewal at that point, with discussions over his future expected to take place only after the conclusion of the season.
Neymar has also publicly avoided committing himself to Santos beyond his current deal.
In August, he said he intended to fulfill his contract and then consider whether to remain at Santos, move elsewhere, continue playing or retire. His father subsequently indicated that he expected Neymar to continue his playing career.
A move to the United States would not be a completely new possibility.
Neymar held discussions over a potential 2027 move to FC Cincinnati earlier this year before withdrawing from those talks. The Athletic reported that Cincinnati never made an official offer, while Neymar remained open to playing in MLS if the right opportunity emerged.
Inter Miami has also been connected with Neymar long before the latest speculation.
Club co-owner Jorge Mas publicly discussed the possibility in December 2024, acknowledging his desire to bring elite players to Miami while also pointing to the roster restrictions imposed by MLS. David Beckham, another member of Inter Miami’s ownership group, has previously expressed interest in Neymar as well.
The possibility gained further attention in August when former Brazil international Felipe Melo said he had been told Neymar would play in Miami beginning in January. Melo did not identify the source beyond describing the person as a friend, and his comments did not amount to confirmation from Neymar or Inter Miami. CNN Brasil subsequently stressed that there was still no confirmed agreement or negotiation.
The obvious attraction would be another reunion involving Neymar and Messi, who played together at Barcelona and later Paris Saint-Germain.
The Barcelona connection has also fueled speculation about a possible return of the famous Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar attacking trio. However, any suggestion that the three will definitely play together again remains speculation rather than an established agreement.
Neymar’s contractual situation is the concrete element behind the latest links.
His Santos deal expires at the end of December, there was no renewal negotiation underway as of the latest detailed reporting from Ge, and Neymar has kept his plans for 2027 open.
Inter Miami remains a possible destination, but Neymar has not signed, agreed to terms or entered a publicly confirmed negotiation with the club.
