Indian Super League outfit Odisha FC have signed an extension for their goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh. The new contract will keep the Indian custodian at Odisha till the end of 2025 and will also have an option to extend a year further.
The 26-year-old featured in 12 matches for the Juggernauts and was in between the sticks for a total of 1080 minutes in the last Indian Super League season. The India international did not have the best year but he came up with 34 saves with a decent average save percentage of 53.12%.
Kamaljit was delighted when he heard the club wants to retain him with another new contract. He was convinced with the project that the management at Odisha FC are trying to build and is in love with the team and the fans.
“From the moment I joined the Juggernauts, I have had a special relationship with the team, management, and our amazing fans. The moment I was briefed about the project and what the club wants to build in the coming years, that was the moment I knew I wanted to extend my stay at the club.
“The dream is to make the state of Odisha along with our fans proud and give them what they deserve. It is an honour to represent the people of Odisha,” he said after putting pen to paper.
The former Hyderabad FC custodian who has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the circuit highlighted how he needs to achieve more with Odisha FC and hopes that the rest of the team also feels the same way. He truly believes that the best is yet to come as he signs a long term contract with the Kalinga Warriors.
“Even after two seasons at the club, it still feels amazing to put on the OFC shirt and play for the club. I know what I have to do and we are going to fight for our club next season.”
“I have to achieve so much more at OFC, and I know that is the same for the rest of the squad and staff. We have shared some great moments and some not-so-good moments over the last couple of years, but the best is yet to come from myself and this team.”
The Odisha FC management also resonated some of Kamaljit’s words as club president Raj Athwal highlighted how important the goalkeeper is to their setup and how happy they were in managing to extend his stay in Odisha FC. “Kamaljit is an important player for the club. His work rate, dedication, and attitude are exactly what we want from a player at OFC. He has served the club well for the past two years. We are happy that he decided to extend his stay at the club,” Athwal added.
